2023-24 New Party Petitions

  • On December 21, 2023, the No Labels Maryland Party submitted a petition to be recognized as a political party in the State of Maryland. As of January 10, 2024, there are 13,628 accepted signatures and 5,844 rejected signatures out of the 19,472 signatures submitted. In order to become a recognized party in Maryland, 10,000 signatures need to be accepted. Accordingly, the State Board of Elections determined that the petition for political party status is sufficient.

2015 New Party Petitions

  • On Tuesday, December 30, 2014, the Green Party submitted petitions in order to continue their party recognition in the State of Maryland. As of January 26, 2015, there are 13,271 accepted signatures and 4,827 rejected signatures out of the 18,098 signatures submitted. In order to become a recognized party in Maryland, 10,000 signatures need to be accepted. Accordingly, the Green Party will continue to be a recognized party in Maryland.

    2012 Petition Filings

    New Party Petitions

    • On Wednesday, April 25, 2012, the Americans Elect Party submitted petitions in order to seek party recognition in the State of Maryland. As of May 3, 2012, there are 11,317 accepted signatures and 3,742 rejected signatures out of the purported 18,450 signatures submitted. In order to become a recognized party in Maryland, 10,000 signatures need to be accepted. Accordingly, the Americans Elect party is now a recognized political party in Maryland.

    2011 New Party Petitions

    The petition verification process must be completed within 20 days of the receipt of the petitions.

    2008 New Party Petition Filings

    On Monday, August 4, 2008, two groups submitted petitions to form New Political Parties in Maryland - the Constitution Party and the Independent Party. The results of the petition verification are below. The petition verification process was completed by August 25, 2008.

    In order for the parties to become recognized in Maryland, 10,000 signatures must be valid. Both parties have a sufficient number of valid signatures. Tables updated - September 9, 2008 at 9:48 a.m.
